KUALA LUMPUR, July 16 -- Time constraint is not a hindrance for national women shooter Nur Suryani Mohamed Taibi’s mission to improve her personal record at the Tokyo Olympic Games this month.

Nur Suryani, placed 34th in the women’s 10m air rifle event in her Olympic debut in London nine years ago, is ready to take on the challenge of the prestigious  sporting event.

Nonetheless, the rifle shooter who is scheduled to leave for Tokyo tomorrow, said she needed to adapt to the weather fast to avoid disrupting her shooting momentum she has built up so far.

“I would not want to talk about medal target. it is all up to Allah. We can only strive, pray and trust after doing the best. InsyaAllah all will proceed smoothly," she said when contacted today.

The 38-year-old athlete will resume her training in Tokyo after completing her three-day quarantine at the Asaka Shooting Range while her 50m rifle 3 position individual event will start on July 31.

Meanwhile, Nur Suryani admitted being far from her loved one especially her two children is a major challenge she has to overcome to keep her focus while in centralised training under quarantine at the National Sports Centre (MSN) Bukit Jalil since early this month.

“The challenge of not seeing my family as they give me the moral support and I have to make it worth the while for the sacrifice of being separated from my children and husband,” she said.

In this regard, coach Mohd Yusri Jusoh said after discussions between the National Shooting Association of Malaysia (NSAM) and MSN, there will be no medal target for Nur Suryani.

“We are only targeting the best for Suryani because we have problems in terms of preparation as we were told (about qualification), only five weeks away from the Olympics," he said, adding that the last event for her was the 2019 SEA Games in the Philippines.

However, Mohd Yusri said based on the development in training, Nur Suryani showed positive improvement from time to time.

Nur Suryani confirmed her slot in Tokyo after becoming NSAM's choice for the wild card, early last month.
