US swimmer dressel breaks world record for 3rd Tokyo Olympics Gold
ANKARA, July 31 -- American swimmer Caeleb Dressel set a new world record as he won men’s 100-meter butterfly on Saturday to grab his third gold medal at the Tokyo Olympics.
He finished with a time of 49.45 seconds, bettering his own world and Olympics records of 49.50 seconds and 49.71 seconds, respectively.
According to Anadolu Agency, Dressel, 24, won his first gold medal at Tokyo 2020 in men’s 4x100-meter freestyle relay on July 26.
He followed that up with another gold three days later in men’s 100-meter freestyle, touching home in 47.02 seconds to shatter the record of 47.05 seconds set by Australia’s Eamon Sullivan in 2008.
The American will be out for another gold in men’s 50-meter freestyle on Sunday.
Dressel also won gold medals at the 2016 Rio Olympics in men’s 4x100-meter freestyle and men’s 4x100-meter medley.
