Germany's Zverev crowned in tennis men's singles at Tokyo 2020

TOKYO, Aug 1 -- Alexander Zverev of Germany pocketed a gold medal in men's singles tennis competition with a straight-set victory over Karen Khachanov of the Russian Olympic Committee (ROC) at the Tokyo Olympic Games here on Sunday.

Fourth-seeded Zverev, who beat world No. 1 Novak Djokovic to reach the final, got past Khachanov 6-3, 6-1 in one hour and 19 minutes, according to Xinhua News Agency. 

The German won 14 of 16 on first serves, and managed three aces to Khachanov's one.

Djokovic failed to bag home a bronze following a 6-4, 6-7 (6), 6-3 defeat to Pablo Carreno Busta from Spain.
