China's Zhang breaks world record to win men's 50m rifle 3 positions at Tokyo Olympics

TOKYO, Aug 2  -- Zhang Changhong broke the world record to win the last shooting gold of the Tokyo Olympics and the fourth for China in men's 50m rifle 3 positions on Monday.

With 466 points, the 21-year-old Olympic debutant set new world and Olympic record to beat Russian shooter Sergey Kamenskiy, who bagged the silver with 464.2 points.

The result is 0.7 points better than the 465.3-point world record set by his fellow countryman Yang Haoran in 2018, reported Xinhua News Agency.

Earlier in the day, Chinese gymnasts Liu Yang and You Hao claimed the gold and silver medals in the men's rings respectively.

Liu scored 15.500 points to finish the top, ahead of You in 15.300 points. Greece's defending champion Eleftherios Petrounias took bronze in 15.200 points.

Liu, 26, placed second to qualify for the final. With an unparalleled execution score of 9.000 points for his movements, Liu secured the first gymnastics gold for China at these Games. 29-year-old You placed eighth to qualify for the final.

Another Chinese athlete, Wang Zhouyu pocketed a gold medal in women's 87kg weightlifting at the Tokyo Olympic Games on Monday.

It's the sixth gold that Chinese weightlifting team has won in seven categories so far at the Tokyo Olympics.

Wang hoisted 115kg in her second snatch attempt before improving it to 120kg, setting up a four-kilo advantage over her nearest rival Crismery Dominga Santana Peguero from the Dominican Republic.

Wang, world champion in this division in 2019, succeeded on 150kg in the clean and jerk for a total of 270kg.

Tamara Yajaira Salazar Arce from Ecuador came from behind to win a silver with 263kg. Peguero placed third with 256kg.
