New Zealand wins women's kayak double 500m at Tokyo Olympics

TOKYO, Aug 3 -- New Zealand paddlers Lisa Carrington and Caitlin Regal won the women's kayak double 500m gold at the Tokyo Olympic Games on Tuesday.

The duo crossed the finish line first in one minute and 35.785 seconds, setting a new Olympic best time, reported Xinhua News Agency.

This is the second gold medal in Tokyo for the 32-year-old Carrington, after the back-to-back London and Rio champion defended her title in women's kayak single 200m an hour earlier.

World silver medalists Karolina Naja and Anna Pulawska of Poland won the silver in 1:36.753, beating reigning European champions Danuta Kozak/Dora Bodonyi to third by 0.114 seconds.
