KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 28 (Bernama) -- Malaysian Hockey Confederation (MHC) deputy president Prof Datuk Dr S. Shamala has resigned from the post effective yesterday (Jan 27).

Shamala, citing health as the main reason for stepping down from the post that she has held since 2015, has also resigned as the Selangor Hockey Association deputy president.

She said it had been the highest honour in her life to serve the national hockey scene for over two decades in different capacities, including as the MHC senior vice-president and Malaysian Women’s Hockey Association secretary.

“Since the MHC Executive Board term is from 2019 to 2023, and we are in the final year of completing this term, I am therefore able to make this decision now.

“I would like to express my profound gratitude and apologise for any shortcomings to all the members of Malaysian hockey (fraternity) for making this journey one that I shall cherish till my last breath,” she wrote in her resignation letter that was posted on her Facebook page.

Meanwhile, the Terengganu Hockey Team (THT) will be banking on four South Koreans - three players and a coach - to drive them to a treble in this season’s Malaysia Hockey League (MHL), which will begin on Feb 9.

Terengganu Hockey Association president Mohd Fikri Harun said they have signed up Jang Jonghyun, who has featured in the Olympics, Choi Hoil and Yoo Seung Ho as well as head coach Seo Jongho.

“In addition, we have also managed to retain the services of Mohd Faizal Saari and his brother Mohd Fitri Saari,” he said at the event to launch the team's jersey and introduce their sponsors and players ahead of the 2023 MHL, here, today.

THT have set their sights on winning the league title as well as capturing the TNB Cup and Charity Shield.

THT will begin their campaign when they face Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) in the curtain-raiser on Feb 9 for the Charity Shield.
